Atlus recently posted a brief Q&A with Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance director Shigeo Komori, in which he answers several commonly asked questions regarding the upcoming title.
For instance, he encourages newer players that this entry is a great starting point while emphasizing the alterations made based on fan feedback from the original Shin Megami Tensei V.
Interestingly, one question asked Komori what his favorite demon in the franchise is, which he revealed is Arahabaki. He receives an ambiance of “an otherworldly adventure” from its ancient sculpture appearance.
Arahabaki has been present in countless Megami Tensei entries, originating from Megami Tensei II.

In this new version of the turn-based RPG, players will be presented with two routes when starting the game. The original Shin Megami Tensei V story route, Canon of Creation, will be selectable alongside the new Canon of Vengeance route, “a dramatic tale of revenge by the fallen.” The plot here will be roughly the same as Canon of Creation before diverging significantly in the latter half with an entirely new outcome.
In the new storyline, players will meet the new character Yoko Hiromine, a magic wielder who stands by the protagonist on the frontlines. Other new characters are the Qadištu, four female demons at the center of this tale of revenge by the oppressed. The leader, Lilith, calls the protagonist the Key of Resurrection.
Additional gameplay enhancements include expanded field exploration, new demon interactions, and more. Demon God Dagda from Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse and the demon Goddess Konohanasakuya, newly illustrated by character designer Masayuki Doi, will be featured as DLC demons on the same day as the launch. They will be available separately for purchase and included with the Digital Deluxe Edition.
The original Shin Megami Tensei V DLC scenarios, Return of the True Demon, The Doctor’s Last Wish, The Rage of a Queen, and A Goddess in Training, will be included from the beginning of the game. Pre-orders for the Standard or Digital Deluxe Editions will grant two Sacred Treasure sets, including Gleam Gernades, to inflict minor damage onto enemies, as well as the Haraedo Bead to recover HP for all allies. Both item sets can be used in battles infinitely.
Owners of the original Shin Megami Tensei V on Nintendo Switch will be able to carry over the data of up to three demons to this title’s Demon Compendium and will also receive previous play bonuses such as the ability to obtain different useful items depending on the clear route.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows and Steam on June 14, 2024.
