Syndicate Atomic released an update for the Melessthanthree-developed action RPG Death of a Wish on PC via Steam. The update adds a new mode called Martyr Mode, an extra-challenging mode that tests players’ skills against the game’s toughest enemies.
In Martyr Mode, the cumulative score of each mandatory encounter is recorded and factored into your final score. Bonus points are rewarded for completing optional objectives and taking on Challenge Cards.
The start of each track will present players with three Challenge Cards to pick from. Challenge Cards introduce new rule modifiers that mix up combat and increase difficulty. These include rules such as:
- Comeback – Upon recovering from a status effect, enemy attacks are 100% more powerful for 10 seconds.
- Break Invuln (ii) – Enemy invulnerable after recovering from Break for 4 seconds
- Lost Grace (ii) – Reduces non-S Rank Corruption reduction by 75%.
Each Challenge Card will introduce more challenging rules, but grant greater score bonuses during a run. Challenge Cards will stack cumulatively over the course of a player’s entire run, so it is critical to make deliberate decisions about which cards to take on and when. Escalating the risk can provide great rewards, but only if you can survive to complete them.

In Death of a Wish, players assume the role of Christian, a young person marked by an enigmatic cult and grappling with the struggle to break free from indoctrination. Together with like-minded individuals, they unite to challenge their oppressors by dismantling the four Sanctum Faiths: Father, Sister, Cardinal, and Priest, thereby disrupting the established order of their world.
The game boasts a range of notable features, including demanding yet rewarding combat that places a premium on strategic aggression. Players can aim to attain high-style ranks to counteract the constantly mounting corruption. The RPG system is robust, offering powerful perks that grant the flexibility to adapt combat dynamics to suit one’s preferred playstyle.
