PQube announced that the Opera House-developed rhythm game I*CHU: Chibi Edition will release on Nintendo Switch on October 3, 2024. This is a remake of the original Japanese release, which is available on mobile devices. However, this version of the game will not include any microtransactions. A physical release has also been revealed.
For fans of the series, this version of the rhythm idol game allows for endless play and ways to unlock new items while progressing the main story. However, the main set back is that this does not include the romantic side story events with the characters. While players can play through the main story, the individual character routes will not be included in this release.
I*CHU: Chibi Edition is a rhythm-based visual novel where players assume the role of a producer tasked with supporting a group of aspiring idols at Etoile Vie School. With 32 idols split into 9 different groups, each boasting its own style and musical aesthetic, the game aims to blend storytelling and rhythm-action gameplay. Groups like Fire Fenix, POP’N STAR, and RE:Berserk will have players managing different idol personalities as they work toward their goal of becoming full-fledged performers.
The game features over 80 original J-Pop songs and allows players to choose between touchscreen and joycon inputs for the rhythm action gameplay. With a range of difficulty settings, from Easy to Nightmare, it seems accessible for both newcomers and seasoned rhythm game players. The game also uses a gacha system that lets players unlock new idols as they progress without any microtransactions, allowing for team-building flexibility.
