Atari and WayForward have unveiled the story trailer for their 2D action adventure Yars Rising ahead of its September 10, 2024, release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Yars Rising has players control protagonist Emi Kimura, a hacker hired by an unknown entity to infiltrate the Qotech corporation. Emi’s able to jump, blast, and stealth past enemies, with her powers revealing the more you progress. Augments and biohacks will grant passage to previously inaccessible areas.
This metroidvania also features hacking minigames that pay homage to the original Yars Revenge on the Atari 2600. Other gameplay mechanics feature fight scenes and turn-based battles.
This new release has the original Yars game, which is playable from the main menu. Other features include stealth traversal and 2D platforming that fans will feel at home with.
The narrative focuses on Emi’s mission entering a new realm of danger as she’s caught hacking into Qotech’s servers and taken to the depths of the company’s headquarters. Here, she fights for survival as she discovers arguments and biohacks across lasers and experiments. However, by communicating with other hackers, Emi gains new augments that expand her explorable scope, leading her to learn the truth about this corporation’s secret and connection to an alien race.
