With the souls-like genre taking the gaming industry by storm, a player’s skills are continually being put to the test as the difficulty forces you to learn across numerous deaths. However, this could end falling apart based on whether or not you can get the hang of the punishing systems and prevail. Developer Lightbulb Crew doesn’t shy away from the challenging aspects of their turn-based RPG Othercide, but they’ve also created a gameflow that invites players of all skill levels to try again without being too punishing. Othercide is set in a gothic high fantasy setting of monochromatic visuals…

Back in 2015, Hideo Kojima made a mark on the industry with his very public divorce from Konami and set up an independent studio with their first publishing partner Sony Interactive Entertainment, a company known for creating console-only titles. Now the studio is leaving another mark by using the Sony-owned Decima engine to port Death Stranding to PC. The result of that history is seeing a high profile first-party title scaling well on a widely diverse platform, adopting many options to play the game beyond what Sony has intended on its home platform. It is possible to easily play Death…

The racing simulation genre has evolved tremendously over the years, but most seem to focus on dream cars drivable on the street. While it’s fun to get behind the wheel of these luxurious cars at top speeds, nothing really tops the exhilaration that Formula 1 racing provides. There are times when I wonder what first-person shooters can do to innovate the core mechanics of the genre, aside from borrowing elements from a hit game until they milk it for everything it has to offer. This is what initially stood out to me about Disintegration, V1 Interactive’s debut title from the co-creator of the Halo franchise, which seems to create its own concept within the genre. With the inclusion of a gravity bike, players can also control a squad using real-time strategy features, blending action mechanics to a stagnant genre. But by the end of it, I felt…

It’s a shame to experience a game that has so much going for it just to be held back by some glaring issues. When it comes to the Camel 101-developed Those Who Remain, I wanted to hold on to the themes and presentation that the small team was trying to portray in their narrative supernatural horror, but in the end, I just couldn’t. After the 6 hour campaign, I was left scratching my head at the events that I just witnessed. Those Who Remain has players follow the story of Edward, a man who is having a tough time…

Everyone loves a good horror game packed with gore and jumpscares. But if gamers are anything like developer CBE Software, they wanted a scare that focuses more on the idea that people might be more scared of themselves. That’s what I found in their newest title Someday You’ll Return, a horror adventure that is more involved in the ancient Czech mythos that has me fully immersed. Someday You’ll Return begins with the main protagonist, Daniel looking for his daughter, Stela. Stela seems to have a history of running away from home, but something feels strange this time. Its been a little while since there has been a standout title in the narrative adventure space. That’s surprising given that these “walking simulators” quickly rose in popularity due to their appealing stories that only require just a bit of interaction from the player. While that’s not to say recent titles haven’t been good, They just haven’t caught my attention until. Well, KeokeN Interactive is here to change all that with the console release of Deliver us the Moon from. What I ended up experiencing is a Sci-fi title set in a pretty grim and realistic situation that mirrors the…

I’ll admit that I was initially impressed with Journey to the Savage Planet. The slow start and fields of empty space made me assume that game was nothing but big-eyed birds and funny dialogue. But as the adventure continued, my character gained new equipment that made those empty spaces into hidden areas full of more upgrades and elements to craft with. Yes, Journey to the Savage Planet is a bonafide exploration game through and through. With the new Hot Garbage DLC, the hope was to expand on the existing mechanics that made this adventure so good in the first place but…
