The Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith once a year, and the cursed number she paints communicates the age that those who turn that age will fade away. The number ticks down every year, with the latest one being 33. The cast, Expedition 33, has the final mission to defeat the Paintress to prevent her from controlling death.
This “evolution of JRPGs” features real-time actions that enhance turn-based combat. The party members have unique builds influenced by gear, stats, skills, and synergies. Dodging, parrying, and countering in real-time will also be possible, with combo chaining via attack rhythms and targeting enemy weak points via a free aim system.
The environments include the Island of Visages and the Forgotten Battlefield, with hidden quests, special companions to recruit, new travel methods, and secret areas. Impressively, this is the developer’s debut game.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Game Pass, and PC in 2025.
Not exactly what I think of when I hear “jrpg” but ngl it does look cool.
