Touhou Spell Carnival is an exciting strategy RPG set in the unique world of Gensokyo, where humans and mythical creatures (youkai) coexist. The story centers on Reimu Hakurei, the shrine maiden of Hakurei Shrine, who notices mysterious pillars appearing across the land. These pillars mark the start of the Spell Carnival, a battle festival organized by Yukari Yakumo, forcing participants to wager their powerful Spell Cards. With uncertainty around Yukari’s intentions, Reimu steps into the festival to uncover the truth behind this mysterious event.
The game combines real-time strategy with the chaotic bullet-hell mechanics that the Touhou series is known for. Players move characters across a grid system, grazing through enemy attacks while unleashing unique abilities. Managing your party’s skills, positioning, and Spell Cards is essential for overcoming the fast-paced battles. Additionally, players can interact with environmental objects to block bullets or gain status effects, adding an extra layer of strategy. Between battles, players can visit the Hakurei Shrine to engage in sub-events and chat with familiar Touhou Project characters.
