Developer 2Awesome Studio and publisher Critical Reflex have launched a Kickstarter to continue developing the Metroidvania Altered Alma. Although the game has been in development for a year, the team will use the funds from Kickstarter to work on the project full-time leading up to launch.
The project’s writing team includes Antony Johnston (Resident Evil Village, Dead Space) and Emma Beeby (Tails of Iron, Still Wakes the Deep), which is definitely a nice sign for those wanting an immersive story. Further, a new Demo was released on Steam for potential backers to try out the game before backing the projects. This is the third Kickstarter from the developer, who launched Dimension Drive and AK-xolotl through crowdfunding, so they feel confident they can deliver what fans want.
Altered Alma has players battle the criminal lords of Neo-Barcelona by achieving upgrades and discovering new explorable routes with a customizable base and recruitable party members. The protagonist, Jack, is a young mercenary, who works for some rather dangerous individuals, and the choices players make will influence Jack’s playstyle and abilities. Further, Jack will reconnect with old friends and even find romance depending on the interactions.
Combat is quick and stylish, highly emphasizing mobility and skill variance. Moreover, the city is futuristic, with landmarks like Sagrada Familia and Park Guell.
