HypeTrain Digital announced that the Code Wakers-developed Metroidvania action game Akatori: Chapter One will launch on PC via Steam on April 19, 2024. The publisher revealed that this is a full game preview that includes some playable biomes. An Early Playtest is available, allowing players to try the game from April 5 through April 9.
Akatori: Chapter One is the prolonging of Akatori. The game features a combat system that revolves around staff or fists, where players must combine Staff and fist attacks to get through encounters. Further, the game features 2 out of 10 biomes available in the main games, eight enemy types, and a samurai boss. The publisher also shared that players can dive into the systems and upgrade their characters for new skills.
Akatori has players assume the role of Make, who begins her journey to save the world from destruction. For ages, an ancient God has been dormant, allowing two dimensions of the magical world of Aakalia to co-exist in balance. However, that all changes as the god awakens to conduct a dark ritual that will kill everyone. It seems like Mako is the only one who can stop the carnage, so she travels off to follow her destiny.
During gameplay, players can switch through dimensions to extend combos as they travel through environments. The combat system is the core element of gameplay, which features lengthy attacks and juggling. Make is equipped with a quarterstaff (her death stick, maybe?) and a hand fan to perform melee and ranged attacks.
