Square Enix announced their 4v4 party shooter, which kind of looks like Splatoon but isn’t, Foamstars, has gone free-to-play after realizing the premium service model wasn’t working for this community. Players without a PSN subscription can also play the game free of charge.
The new Foamstars update, titled Diamond Jam, introduces several exciting features and improvements. One of the major additions includes Diamond Chips, which players can earn while playing and later trade for items like skins, emotes, and slideboards through the Diamond Trade system. To kick off this season, there will be a special login bonus, giving players extra Diamond Chips as part of the celebration.
In addition to the new currency system, five new maps are being added to the popular Smash the Star mode, including fun and vibrant locations like Shoreline Shoppin’ Spree, Rubber Duck’s Spa-larious Oasis, and Dancefloor Dreamland. Those enjoying Private Party mode can explore four additional maps from the Happy Bath Survival series, providing even more variety in gameplay environments.
Players can also take on WAVE boss battles in the new Squad Missions and compete in the Ranked Party seasonal event, which offers both team and solo play, allowing competitors to climb the ranking ladder. The Extreme Party mode, packed with unique events and special rules, adds even more chaos to the fun.
Season Pass holders will receive special cosmetics, including skins for The Baristador and Ramzey, as well as exclusive rewards unlocked through Weekly Challenges. Additionally, the Premium Season Pass, available for $5.99, offers players the chance to unlock all rewards up to their current tier instantly. This update looks to expand Foamstars with plenty of fresh content and engaging seasonal events.
Foamstars is currently available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
