Distant Blue has announced that its 3D platforming action RPG Fading Skies has been funded on Kickstarter, and 27 days of the campaign still remain.
Fading Skies follows Ryn and her dragon companion to uncover a forgotten past, where the former’s abilities are restored gradually, including dashing and soaring. The world is described as seamless, with hidden caves, temples, and more challenges that provide upgrades. The narrative will also emphasize Ryn’s own identity, as she suffers from amnesia.
The Kickstarter page provides more details, such as how the experience is fully diegetic, how cutscenes aren’t needlessly lengthy for dry exposition, and how events will be fully voiced with professional voice actors. The gameplay is also stated to encourage free-form exploration, with numerous ways to approach various sequences. Composer Andreas Scheffer will be handling the soundtrack alongside vocals by Emi Evans.
The team stated that Fading Skies is inspired by several action adventures, including Kingdom Hearts, Dark Souls, NieR Replicant, Spyro the Dragon, and more.
Development is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, with playtesting starting at the end of 2025.
Fading Skies will be released on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and potentially the Switch 2. It will have text localization in English, German, French, Japanese, Portuguese—Brazil, Spanish—Spain, and Simplified Chinese.
