Crunchyroll announced they have partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment to host a theatrical release of The Concierge and Trapezium—The Concierge on September 11 and Trapezium on September 18, both for one day only, in North America. The Concierge will also be distributed in Italy on September 23, Germany on September 24, Australia on September 26, and Spain on September 27. Trapezium, which has been acquired by Crunchyroll, will be released in France on November 19 and Germany on November 26.
The Concierge introduces Akino, a trainee concierge at the unique Hokkyoku Department Store that exclusively serves animals and strives to become a full-fledged concierge. Guided by the floor manager and senior concierges, she works tirelessly to meet the diverse needs and solve the problems of her animal customers. Directed by Yoshimi Itazu and produced by Production I.G., the film features a main voice cast, including Natsumi Kawaida as Akino, Takeo Otsuka as Elulu, and Kenjiro Tsuda as Woolly. The award-winning film premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2023 and had its North American premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July 2023. It has also been showcased at various film festivals worldwide throughout 2023-2024.
Trapezium tells the story of Yu Azuma, a passionate first-year student at Joshu East High School, is determined to become an idol and sets out to form an idol group. To achieve her dream, she recruits one girl from each of her region’s four high schools. Joining Yu are Ranko Kashima, a sophisticated second-year student from Holy Teneritas Southern Girls’ Academy; Kurumi Taiga, a student from West Tech Vocational High School with dreams of winning a robotics competition; and Mika Kamei, a kind-hearted student from Joshu North High School known for her dedication to volunteering. Together, with the help of Yu’s confidante Shinji Kudo, these four girls embark on their journey to stardom, facing unexpected trials, rigorous demands, and setbacks along the way.
Trapezium is based on Kazumi Takayama’s novel “Trapezium” (Da Vinci / Kadokawa) and was adapted into a screenplay by Yuko Kakihara. The film is directed by Masahiro Shinohara and produced by Cloverworks, featuring a main voice cast that includes Asaki Yuikawa, Hina Youmiya, Reina Ueda, and Haruka Aikawa.
