Remedy Games announced on their investors website that the first two Max Payne games will be completely remade in-house for current consoles and PC.
The two games, remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, will be developed as a single title for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in the proprietary Northlight game engine. Though it’s being developed by Remedy, the remake is being financed by Rockstar Games, who published the first two Max Payne games and developed Max Payne 3. According to the post, the project is currently in the concept development stage.
Remedy CEO Tero Virtala commented on the announcement:
“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same. We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, also spoke on the announcement:
“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
