Nintendo has announced the release date for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The 3D platformer adventure from the classic pink puffball series developed by HAL Laboratory will be available for Nintendo Switch in March 25, 2022. The company has also shared some new details on gameplay including two brand-new copy abilities and co-op mode for two players.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the newest game in the franchise, bringing it to a new dimension. All previous mainline titles were 2D platformers, even when some of those featured 3D assets. As players get to explore abandoned areas from a past civilization, this will likely add new elements to the dark lore hidden in the series. (This is not a joke.)
Besides being able to move around freely through the stages, Forgotten Land will include the traditional copy abilities, some of which are shown in the video. By inhaling enemies, Kirby can copy their powers using distinct movesets to advance through the areas and beat down enemies on his way.
The video shows traditional abilities such as Bomb, Tornado, Hammer, Crash, Sword and Fire. The video focuses on two new powers, Drill and Ranger. Though there was a Drill form in Kirby 64 (made from mixing Stone and Needle), this one seems to play differently overall.
The company has also announced Kirby and the Forgotten Land will have minigames and a local co-op mode in which the second player controls the Bandana Waddle Dee and uses a spear. Check out the new trailer below:
