Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced that they have filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against Palworld developer, Pocketpair.
The reasoning for this lawsuit is that Palworld is believed to have infringed multiple patent rights. You can view the full message below:
Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Kyoto, Minami-ku, Japan; Representative Director and President: Shuntaro Furukawa, “Nintendo” hereafter), together with The Pokémon Company, filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court against Pocketpair, Inc. (HQ: 2-10-2 Higashigotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, “Defendant” hereafter) on September 18, 2024.
This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.
Nintendo will continue to take necessary actions against any infringement of its intellectual property rights including the Nintendo brand itself, to protect the intellectual properties it has worked hard to establish over the years.
During the February 2024 Pokémon Presents broadcast, Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokémon Company announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A, set to be released worldwide for Nintendo Switch simultaneously in 2025.
The announcement trailer was vague and not explicit in its details, with there being an urban development plan in place for Lumiose City, which is part of the Kalos region, otherwise known as the sixth generation of the franchise. A return to Kalos likely wasn’t in many people’s cards, so this notion is somewhat exciting. Mega Evolutions have also been teased to return.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is available on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription service.
Shouldn’t Nintendo also Sue Digimon and Monster Rancher than if they own monster raising games.
