In an interview with outlet Entertainment Weekly, Wes Ball, the director of the previously announced live-action film adaptation of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise, talked about his thoughts on the project.
The most significant discussion point throughout the interview is how Ball’s vision for the film is to be “a live-action Miyazaki” with plenty of wonder and whimsy in a fantasy adventure that feels distinct from other projects like Lord of the Rings.
Ball also emphasized that the team is genuinely trying to make something special with this Zelda movie, and they aren’t “trying to do it because [they] can.” In fact, Ball grew up on Zelda and believes it to be “the most important property, I think, that’s untapped IP, if you will.”

Further, the movie has been confirmed to be co-financed by “Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo.”
