Death Stranding 2 marks the continuation of Hideo Kojima’s unique narrative-driven gaming experience. In this sequel, players rejoin protagonist Sam and his companions as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world. The story delves into profound themes of human connection and poses existential questions about the consequences of uniting humanity in a fragmented world. The journey unfolds across landscapes filled with supernatural adversaries and obstacles, challenging players to ponder the overarching question: was connecting the world the right choice?
The game features a star-studded cast, with Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker reprising their roles from the original Death Stranding. They are joined by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Academy Award-winning director George Miller, enriching the narrative with diverse characters and perspectives. The game’s artistic and auditory aspects are overseen by Hideo Kojima’s longtime collaborators, with Yoji Shinkawa leading character and mechanical design and Ludvig Forssell, alongside Kyle Cooper, returning as musical director and title designer. These elements collectively contribute to the unique atmosphere and depth that Death Stranding is known for, promising an immersive and thought-provoking experience in Death Stranding 2.
Throughout the original Death Stranding, players control protagonist Sam Porter, played by Norman Reedus. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where hostile BTs roam the land, Sam acts as a beacon of hope and connection for individuals spread across fragmented societies. The unique gameplay involves plenty of walking, with several involved mechanics imbuing the practice with depth.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is expected to be released in 2025 for the PlayStation 5.
