Nintendo have taken to social media to make an announcement in regards to the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch follow-up. The successor has had rumors surrounding it for a while, and as the original console is nearly a decade old, they have only intensified with time.
The post on X (formerly twitter) reads as follows and can be seen below.
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”

As an additional note, the Japanese fiscal year begins on the first of april and ends on the thirty-first of march.
This implies, at least to me, that the successor will most likely be announced next January, in 2025, to avoid messing with holiday sales. But this is just speculation.
Finally, there will also be a Nintendo Direct in June of this year. I wonder what they could be showing?
