Mixed Realms has opened the global playtest for 13Z. Players can now request access to the hack-and-slash roguelike on Steam while the developers still work on the title. While the full game will have co-op, this version only offers singleplayer action.
13Z tells the story of six animal spirits aiming at becoming the 13th member of the Zodiac Guardians. It’s up to us to face the trials as an underdog looking for glory, making the most out of their skills.
In the demo, players will be able to play as Lyra the Fox. She’s a fast swordswoman who can cut enemies using fierce combos. Not only does she use Eastern blade techniques but also her tail in a wide swing motion.
While her focus is melee, she may also charge and summon spectral blades to hit enemies from a distance. It’s also possible to force opponents upward and start an airborne combo.
When trying to move away from enemies, players may dash and activate her fox form. This allows for quick evasion and dashing may also help in battle with specific deflection movements.
Players can see all of these elements in action in a character trailer shared back in August:
The expectation is that other characters in 13Z will have big differences, allowing players to find their preferred style. Meanwhile, as a roguelike, players will unlock various upgrade options that will help make each run unique.
The playtest should offer a taste of the options but the full game promises more depth to the builds, the co-op mode, three more story acts, a village with NPCs, and other mechanics not yet unveiled.
We’ll be sure to let you know as Mixed Realms reveals more information on 13Z, such as the release date.
