During Anime Expo 2018, Japanese developer Spike Chunsoft revealed the first trailer for Zero Escape Director Kotaro Uchikoshi newest game, AI: The Somnium Files, previously titled Project Psync.
Although brief, the gameplay shown was enough to set the mood of the director’s upcoming title. The game is set in modern-day Tokyo where the player will solve crimes using an artificial AI (pronounced ‘eye’). The word Somnium is Latin for dreams. Players will travel into character’s dreams in order to solve cases and use their memories to extract information.
Besides the main character, Iris was also revealed. She is a “YouTuber” and enjoy’s making “Let’s Play” videos on the internet. During the panel, the team also revealed a short snippet of gameplay featuring Iris talking to the crowd.
AI: The Somnium Files will be different from what fans of the director are used to, but the game seems to be coming along nicely. More importantly, during the panel, he seemed to come off as excited rather stressed out, which is a good sign.
AI: The Somnium Files is in development for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam with no release window given.
