Square Enix has unveiled new gameplay details for its upcoming turn-based RPG remake Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.
Firstly, character classes are introduced, with the characters viewable via our gallery below:
Next, the Glimmer System has been highlighted. This retuning facet lets players check which character class can learn what skills through the glimmer chart, with different classes having different affinities for learning specific techniques. Those not yet learned will be a string of question marks, while those that can’t be learned at all due to the character class are represented as an icon with a diagonal line. Fans can anticipate new spells and formations that were not in the original game, too.
Spells learned from the glimmer system will be registered at the Incantations Lab, where they can be taught to other characters at a high enough level in the appropriate spell school. Plus, synthesized spells that combine two different elements can be developed by finding Old Books hidden in dungeons and atop the overworld.
Another feature is the Imperial University, which lets players take imperial exams. Passing can reward them with crafting materials and the in-universe currency known as crowns. Further, the university’s Odeum lets players listen to the soundtrack’s original and updated arrangements.
At the Avalon Gardens, which encourages tourism, more imperial revenue can be earned, and the gardens will grow as more battles are won, thereby increasing the revenue.
The Imperial Standing is a feature that lets players check out the Empire’s weapon and spell school levels, with the overall standing increasing as weapons and spells are used in battle. The rise of this standing will increase the base level and strength of new retinue members recruited from taverns. The screen communicating the Imperial Standing will also showcase enemy strength, current imperial revenue, and overall battle records.
Moreover, the Imperial Chronicle lets players view records of the story so far, the next objectives, and transparency on quest objectives. A returning face is Mr. S, a character who will appear all throughout the world. Finding him will grant a sticker, and thresholds of collecting these will impart innumerable benefits, such as increasing money from battles, decreasing facility build time, and unveiling the locations of not-yet-found treasure chests.

Lastly, the following fre-form scenario was detailed:
The Sunken Ship
One day, the small port town of Toba in South Longit is struck by a fierce storm that shows no sign of letting up.
The storm has left the locals unable to fish. A diver from the town informs the Emperor that a pirate by the name of Garon was shipwrecked somewhere in the middle of the South Longit Sea after being attacked by Narwhal, Ruler of the Seas. Garon still haunts the region, and his ghost is suspected to be the cause of the storm.
If the player makes peace with Narwhal after she destroyed one of the Empire’s bridges, a messenger from the mermaids will give the player the mermaid potion.
If the player seeks out the witch, they will need to go on a quest which requires getting help from a variety of different races and then handing over the necessary materials. Once done, the witch will reward the player with the potion.
The original Romancing SaGa 2 sold over one million units worldwide and was acclaimed for its nonlinear adventure and challenge. Players must defeat the Seven Heroes of the Varennes Empire, who have sunk to the depths of vengeance.
Players take on the role of Emperor of Avalon, defending the Empire across several generations while trying to defeat the Seven Heroes.
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven will feature Japanese and English voiceovers, an enhanced turn-based battle system, original and rearranged compositions by franchise composer Kenji Ito, and more. Check out the latest gameplay information.
