IGN Japan has unveiled exclusive gameplay for the upcoming Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars.
The footage showcases the boss battle against the Stone Golem from Suikoden II, allowing fans to get a closer look at how this remaster project’s efforts bear fruit.
Suikoden I follows a hero who has become a tyrant, and an empire falls into decline. The Liberation Army rises up in rebellion against this oppression, and the 108 Stars of Destiny gather to change the course of history.
Suikoden II follows the main character and his friend Jowy as members of the Unicorn Youth Brigade, which participated in a drawn-out border dispute between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowstown. A few months early, a truth agreement was signed between the two forces, which seemed to be stopping their fight. However, war continues under a guise.
Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will feature HD upgraded backgrounds, newly upgraded animations, new environmental sound effects, new battle sound effects, auto-save, fast forwarding, and a conversation log.
Developers Yasuo Daikai and Takahiro Sakiyama previously commented on the remaster process: They confirmed that the localized scripts will be retooled compared to the original releases to better match the Japanese scripts. Additionally, Daikai stated that he “would really like to keep making more Suikoden games in the future,” though that seems to depend on fan support.
Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on March 6, 2025.
