As the crisp autumn air envelops us and leaves crunch underfoot, October arrives, bearing a treasure trove of new games that have us eagerly awaiting their release. If I’m going to be completely honest with you, there is no way anyone could play through all of the releases this month is packing. But the idea is that these titles will lead us into the holiday months when we can only hope relatives give us money to buy them. So, while these titles might be saved for a buy 2 get 1 free on black Friday, they’re available this month, and we’re excited about them.
Be sure to let us know which games you’re excited about in the comments below:
1. Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Switch, PC | Release Date: October 24, 2024
The classic RPG series returns with Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, a full remake of the groundbreaking original from 1993. We’re thrilled to see how the game blends nostalgic elements with modern enhancements, such as fully voiced event scenes in both Japanese and English, and reimagined compositions by the original composer, Kenji Ito.
What intrigues us most is the game’s unique “Free-Form Scenario” system, which allows for a non-linear storytelling experience that responds to our choices. With over 30 different classes to choose from—each with their own skills and tactics—we’re eager to see how the imperial succession mechanic will let us pass down abilities through generations. The revamped combat system, featuring the new “United Attack” for combination moves, promises to add fresh strategic layers to battles. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the series, this remake offers multiple difficulty settings to suit your playstyle.
2. Metaphor: ReFantazio

From the creative minds behind “Persona 3,” “4,” and “5” comes “Metaphor: ReFantazio,” a unique fantasy adventure that has us utterly captivated. We step into the role of a protagonist on a quest to lift a curse from a kingdom’s lost prince, accompanied by a fairy companion named Gallica. The game’s art style and immersive world-building immediately drew us in, promising a realm where fantasy and reality blend seamlessly.
What excites us is the game’s innovative “Archetype” system, which allows us to awaken dormant powers and customize our party with unique job classes. The combination of turn-based and real-time action in combat offers a fresh strategic experience. Time management plays a crucial role, as we’ll need to balance dungeon exploration and treasure hunting by day with strengthening relationships and building bonds by night. Riding the “gauntlet runner” across an expansive world filled with beautiful landscapes, accompanied by captivating music and anime cutscenes, adds another layer of immersion we’re eager to dive into.

For fans of high-octane action, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO promises to deliver the explosive combat we’ve come to love from the franchise. The idea of experiencing intense battles that stay true to the anime’s dynamic style, especially on next-gen consoles, has us thrilled. The enhanced visuals and smoother performance are sure to elevate every Kamehameha and Spirit Bomb.
We’re particularly excited about the game’s commitment to capturing the essence of the anime’s combat—think beam clashes, rapid-fire combos, and planet-shattering ultimate attacks. The prospect of choosing from a roster of over 180 fighters from the series is probably the most appealing aspect of the package. Each character brings their unique abilities, transformations, and techniques, promising a depth of combat that’s both authentic and thrilling.

Playing as Zee, an android on a quest for answers, we’re promised a world filled with lush landscapes, from tranquil lakes to towering mountains. The game’s emphasis on peaceful exploration and meditation offers a refreshing change of pace from high-octane titles.
What excites us most is the fluid movement mechanics. Gradually upgrading Zee’s Zephyr jetpack to glide and soar freely through the sky sounds like an absolute delight. The promise of solving mysteries within the ruins of a fallen utopia, coupled with an intimate story about growth and humanity’s relationship with nature, makes Europa a journey we’re keen to embark upon.

The art style appears to complement the emotional depth, creating an immersive experience.
The game’s hand-drawn art and traditional animation bring to life an eclectic cast of characters inspired by Japanese mythology—from samurai crows to mischievous kappas. The prospect of navigating friendships, first loves, and the trials of adolescence while interacting with such fascinating beings has us genuinely excited. We’re captivated by the prospect of mastering the Fold’s abilities. The adventure is part of a larger universe where various media intertwine, adding an extra layer of depth we’re eager to explore.

As the creature grows from a rebellious cub into a formidable adult seeking its own identity, their bond is tested, adding emotional depth to the narrative. The dynamic between them promises to influence both gameplay and storytelling, requiring cooperation to overcome increasingly dangerous situations. The blend of action, emotion, and stunning artistry makes Neva a title we can’t wait to explore.

With Halloween approaching, Fear the Spotlight seems like the perfect game to get us in the spooky spirit. The premise of being thrust into the limelight in a horror setting is both intriguing and unsettling. We’re excited (and a bit apprehensive) to see how the game plays with themes of exposure and fear.
We’re intrigued by the game’s focus on stealth and atmospheric horror. Sneaking past dangers, solving tactile puzzles, and unraveling a disturbing mystery harken back to classic ’90s horror experiences. The retro art style and tense audio design amplify the sense of dread, making it a perfect entry point for those new to the genre and a nostalgic trip for seasoned fans. The expanded storyline promises deeper immersion into the dark history of Sunnyside High, and we can’t wait to uncover its secrets.

What excites us is the new “Cross Action System,” which lets us switch between controlling Adol and Karja independently or together. Combining their unique abilities and building up the Revenge Gauge to unleash powerful attacks adds a fresh strategic layer to combat. The introduction of the “Power of Mana” allows us to manipulate the environment—grappling, sliding, and creating new pathways—to overcome obstacles and discover hidden treasures. And let’s not forget we can sail a ship in this entry. Hopefully, this long-running action series continues to deliver cause we want more.

For me, this month is all about Ys X! The Ys series has become one of my favorite over the last decade.
i just can’t get over the purple pants haha everything about the gameplay is solid.
Guys, I’ve just discovered your website, I really like it. It is a refresher to see a game media website run by real people, not just by brand name with people behind it. Cheers!
welcome 🙂
Great list, love these monthly lists!! Left a longer comment on Youtube, but I hope you guys have the time/interest to keep doing these top 10s. The various gaming tastes of your staff make them interesting.
Every time I see Ys X mentioned I instantly think “didn’t this game already come out?”. I had the same issue with Ys IX thinking it had been released long before it actually did. Don’t know why. I got Ys X on the wishlist, but thats for much, much later – I’m still playing through Ys III.
Wait, no Silent Hill 2? Seriously?
